The way to your optimal health lies within you, but the only way to find “the way” is to stop following the paths of others that lead you astray. In my last article, I wrote about the importance of experimentation. You have to experiment – because if you don’t, nothing will change.

If you don’t experiment, you’ll never discover what truly works for YOU and your body, as an individual with unique traits and characteristics.

This is a very important concept in Functional Medicine. The idea that each patient is an individual and even if two patients suffer from the same disease, they may require completely different strategies to find a solution. It is about YOU. About what works for YOU…not for your neighbor or your friend or even your doctor.

It is my job to help you find that individual solution. To treat you as your own person, not shut you in a box of what “should” work for you. And as I mentioned in my last article, you don’t need MY permission to find solutions for your health. I am more than happy to help guide you, but at the end of the day, you are the one who can make the call about what feels good and works.

It’s about your food, your movement, your mind, your relationships, and your dreams. It’s about balancing all these important elements and knowing what is best for you in your life and in your body.

So what works for you? What feels good? Experiment! Try asking yourself these questions and working to experiment to find the answers:

1. What is My End Goal?

I’ve spoken before about the importance of knowing your WHY. By taking the time to think about and determine your goals in a detailed manner, you will be better equipped to make progress and break milestones in no time! Experiment with what WHY motivates you the most!

2. What Foods Feel Best in My Body?

Everyone is different. And that means that food affects each and every one of us differently. Try keeping a food journal to keep track of what you are eating and how it makes you feel immediately after eating, a few hours after eating, the next day, and the day after that.

3. What Movement Brings Me Joy?

As we know, not all exercise is created equal. However, any movement s good movement! What ways of moving your body brings you joy? What new activities, sports, or regimens can you experiment with in order to discover something that makes you EXCITED to move each day?

4. How Do I Prefer to Care for My Mind?

As you’ve heard me say regularly, mindset is everything. What you believe becomes true and part of a healthy lifestyle is a healthy mindset. Do you find benefits in meditating? Do you find affirmations to be helpful? Do you use simple deep breathing to control stress or anxiety? Experiment and take note of what makes you feel your absolute best.

5. Who Can Support Me on My Journey?

Your success in health and wellness is correlated with who you surround yourself with. Are there friends in your life who are also excited about improving their health and wellness? Are there friends who are holding you back? Be honest with yourself and take the responsibility to experiment and surround yourself with people who help you be better.

It’s time to take back your health. Experiment and find what works for YOU. Afterall, you are the only person who can determine those truths for yourself. And as always, I am happy to be one of the supportive people by your side along the way.

Spice it up. Take a chance. Make a change. Do something different!

Your healthy and happy body with thank you.
