The Functional Medicine Approach

Dr. Jerome Craig, DC addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging the patient in a therapeutic partnership.

By moving from the traditional disease-centered focus of medicine to a more patient-centered approach, Functional Medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms.

Dr. Jerome spends time with his patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease.

My Philosophy – Your Philosophy Too?

Patients who do best working with me:

  • don’t want to rely on unnecessary drugs and medical treatment for the rest of their lives;
  • are curious to discover the underlying cause of their problems, rather than just suppressing symptoms;
  • are motivated to be an active participant in their own healing process; and,
  • are willing to make the necessary changes to support health and well-being.

My focus will be to identify and address the underlying cause of an illness, rather than just suppress symptoms.

This requires some detective work, and like a detective, I use a variety of tools in my investigation, including modern laboratory tests (blood, urine, stool and saliva testing), detailed questionnaires and thorough medical history and examination.

Together I will use nutritional therapy, herbal medicine, supplements, stress management, detoxification and lifestyle changes to restore proper function.

Your body can heal only if I find the root cause of your illness. By understanding the core systems of the body, how they are related, and how their function can be restored, many chronic illnesses can be prevented and even reversed.
